Advice Needed

What color, material, and length of curtains would work best in our living room? I have no idea; but I really want to hang some, because this room needs some color or something.

Should I try a patterend fabric? Should I try hanging the curtains all the way at the top of the wall or just right above the window? How long should they be?

The window in question. (Most of the apartment is decorated with that same green color as the rug.)

Left side of the room. (Maroon leather couch, dark red mirror)

Right side of the room. (I'd love to paint this wall, too, but I'm not sure if I have time for that much of a makeover--hopefully curtains alone will make enough of a difference.)

Thanks for the help!

Love your sofa-
I'm sure whatever you choose to do will be great. Just a thought- With a fabulous sofa like that I would try to match the curtains as close as I could to that color- {potterybarn has some, in velvet, which would be great for a feeling of warmth in your cool winter.} I would hang them high and just touch the ground- I would probably also hang them about 12" pass each end of the window-
(removing the prints on each side of your window, so the window looks larger} Just by doing that you've added tons of color to the room- then I would add some fun colored pillow in a fun green like you already have.
On the wall that you want to paint, I would leave it like it is, and do a collage of pictures all in the same colored frames. All your black accent items would be prefect with that- {note- If you don't have a lot of the same colored frames, spray paint works great, I've done that tons of time- even on furniture, I've just finished spray painting a table for the City bungalow- spray paint is the best decorating tool}
Good luck, and how fun.

I love curtains! They do so much to soften and add warmth to a room. Which is something that is always needed in apartment living. :)

I agree with my mom: make the curtains go well past the window (that will make the window seem bigger) and make sure they go all the way to the ground. I think you only need to hang them about 4 inches above the window.

Because you've got a solid colored couch and rug I say go for a fun print on the curtains. Target usually has some cool stuff. Or go to the fabric store and make your own. Then you could get a little extra fabric and make a throw pillow for your couch to tie it all in.

I think curtains would help make a big difference. We just replaced some blinds in our family room with curtains instead (in grass green) and it has helped make the room more colorful and cozy.

Have fun!

I would go all the way to the celing and all the way to the floor and let some hang on the ground. I would do gold/copper color it goes well with all the colors you have. you should go to (if you have one) JoAnns and get inspired by their apolstery fabrics, I love them, they have fun texturing and gatherings, pretty fabrics & make your own curtains.

but that's me & my taste sometimes can be funky good luck can't wait to see your finished project

I;m with teresa. I love the illusion of a bigger window. But I'm sure whatever you do, it will look great!

I like what everyone said, but I'm all for a bright color instead of a bland one, make the room fun, and playing off the couch and rug are great ideas! Can't wait to see it!!
