harry potter party

A few weeks ago, our friends asked us if we were excited about the new Harry Potter movie.
Definitely!
Then they asked if we wanted to have a party with them to celebrate.
Of course!

It was pretty low-key, compared to most of the parties people are having for this movie,
but it was perfect.
They came, we ate a dinner of "magic wand" breadsticks with "potion" dips,
delicious Brazilian lemonade,
and some fruit and a green salad for good measure.

Then we put the children to bed,
set up Kent's projector, and made some popcorn, witches hat cookies, and
butterbeer (a drink that is mentioned lots of times in Harry Potter).
I'm considering making butterbeer some sort of wintertime tradition-it was so yummy!

There are tons of recipes online for Butterbeer. We wanted to find one that didn't include alcohol, of course.
This recipe (from the food network) is the one we used:
Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/4 cup butterscotch topping
  • 2 tablespoons whipped butter, room temperature
  • 1 1/2 cups vanilla cream soda
Directions
Combine condensed milk, butterscotch topping, and butter in a glass heatproof measuring cup. Heat in microwave for 1 minute. Remove and stir until butter has melted and incorporated into mixture. Meanwhile heat cream soda in another heatproof measuring cup for 1 minute 30 seconds.
Divide butterscotch mixture between 2 (10 to 12-ounce) mugs. Fill mugs with heated cream soda and stir thoroughly. Serve garnished with an old-fashioned butterscotch candy stick.

How FUN! I am such a Harry Potter fan ... I wish we could have a party. Alas, none of our friends are fans, which to me means they don't read at all. If you read anything, you should've read Harry Potter, right?

Well, I love your party idea ... and as soon as I saw that you had butter beer I thought, "Oh I should ask her for that recipe!" And then there it was. Bless you're heart. As soon as it cools down/our landlord fixes our air conditioning, I'm making it.

isn't that Brazilian lemonade the best! I love it -- so refreshing. I love the candle lighting -- so pretty. And holy cow, the butter beer -- so creamy! Definitely sounds like a good winter time treat.
